19th Century Bronze Venus of Capua Bookcases & Display CabinetsA superb Grand Tour bronze of Venus of Capua, circa. late 19th century. The Venus of Capua is a Roman marble sculpture (2nd century AD), preserved in the National Archaeological Museum of Naples, depicting Venus with her left foot on Mars' helmet and arms raised. The original sculpture likely had a shield, used by the goddess to mirror herself. This 19th century bronze of the original is crisply cast and of excellent proportions. Mounted upon a Sienna

There is some rubbing to the original rear wire near the top (please see photographs) but the wire remains extremely strong

it was held by the owners of the Rectory Manor

The pot is in a near immaculate condition

circa early 20th century

dealing with English and European manners and hot topics of the day

most notably two chips to the very bottom left hand panel corners

Weight: 120 grams

Henry Howard Lacey (28 June 1927-30 July 1996) and they had a son and two daughters

The whole is framed in a later white fabric and gilt wood frame which compliments the black and white of the sitter's clothing
